Ben Jager
Ben Jager has served in the EKU Student Government Association for six semesters. In an unusually quick rise to the level of a parliamentary officer, Jager's distinguished service earned him appointment as the Clerk & Historian of the Senate after one semester. As a member of the Student Rights committee, Jager worked on such pressing issues as parking and free speech zones, paving the way for his future leadership in this arena. Furthermore, as a freshman, Jager served on the Associate Director of Housing Search Committee.
As a sophomore, Jager was appointed the Senate Student Rights Co-chair. As Co-chair of this committee, Jager had the opportunity to address many issues vital to the student body. He investigated problems with and eventually revised the daytime shuttle schedule to better serve riders. After Jager learned of serious concerns regarding the availabilty of textbook information, he led an investigation of the issue and brought the Vice President for Student Affairs and the manager of the on-campus bookstore to the floor of Student Senate. This dialogue resulted in the ability of students to order their textbooks online immediately after registering for classes. Finally, Jager directed the progression of a more effective campus recycling program, which brought recycling cans into the residence halls.
In his third and current year of service to the Student Government Association, Jager was appointed by President Kyle Moon as his Chief of Staff. As supervisor of the President's cabinet, this position has allowed him to serve on several university committees -- such as the University Parking & Transportation Committee -- giving him the chance to form strong relationships with university administrators, faculty, and staff. Furthermore, as the President's closest advisor, Jager has gained extensive knowledge of the workings of SGA, and in particular the Student Senate. As a member of the Executive Cabinet, Jager holds one of five votes needed to approve every act and resolution passed by the Student Senate, working closely with the Executive Vice President on matters of policy and branch operations. Also as Chief of Staff, Jager was afforded the invaluable opportunity to chair the SGA Constitutional Revision Committee, which added a line of succession and a disciplinary action process to the SGA constitution. Under Jager's leadership, this group also pursued the sensitive task of clarifying the relationship between SGA and the University.
As a member of the University Parking and Transportation Committee with David Fifer, Jager is a pivotal member of a group that formulated a list of 30 recommendations to President Glasser for implementation. Furthermore, Jager and Fifer have worked personally with Parking & Transportation Director Mark Jozefowicz, to greatly revise and expand the daytime shuttle service. A dedicated veteran of SGA and the Student Senate, Ben Jager is excited to bring his extensive knowledge and leadership experience back to the branch that gave him his start serving the student body.
